What is the Red Rock Cup?
The Red Rock Cup is a charitable long-distance skating race held on the natural ice of Lake Superior near Red Rock, Ontario. Inspired by historic endurance skating traditions, the event brings together community, outdoor adventure, and winter culture in a uniquely Northern Ontario setting.

Inspired by the Elfstedentocht
The Red Rock Cup draws inspiration from the legendary Elfstedentocht; a historic Dutch endurance skating race traditionally connecting eleven cities across frozen canals. Known for its rarity and dependence on natural ice conditions, the Elfstedentocht represents resilience, endurance, and community spirit.
Bringing that same philosophy to Lake Superior, the Red Rock Cup embraces the unpredictability and beauty of skating on natural ice, where each year’s experience is shaped by weather, landscape, and community effort.
A Community-Driven Event
Built through local collaboration and powered by volunteers, the Red Rock Cup is as much about community as it is about competition. From rink building and public skating events to race week celebrations, the project highlights the unique character of the region while welcoming both experienced endurance skaters and those simply looking to be part of something special.

Creating Local Impact
The goal of the Red Rock Cup extends beyond the race itself. The event is designed to attract visitors to Red Rock, Nipigon, and the surrounding region; celebrating the landscape, supporting local tourism, and creating meaningful economic impact.
The charity will employ local residents to help bring the project to life, ensuring the event remains rooted in community.
Giving Back to the Region
Any surplus funds generated will be reinvested locally, with donations directed to the Township of Red Rock and Lake Helen Reserve, supporting future initiatives and strengthening the region for years to come.
